About the Artist
Angelo Sherman is a self-taught Detroit-based artist. While working at the Detroit Institute of Arts as
a museum security guard, he spent his time observing, learning and creating renditions from the old
masters that hung on the gallery walls. He often visited the Detroit Main Library, across the street from
the museum, to do his research. Sherman would also listen to the lecturers by the art instructors from the Center For Creative Studies. The Wright Museum was also part of his journey. Sherman was able to cross reference and meet current masters such as Charles Mcgee, Al Loving, Romare Bearden amongst others. Angelo’s work is distinct in style with textures and movement of various subject matter. Sherman considers himself a mix-media artist and at times incorporates discarded paper, cloth, metals and other found objects into his work. Before and after the pandemic he has been working on a variety of different series, depicting sports, Art In The City, abstract nudes, cartoons, landscapes and other topics that he
finds interesting .
