ART TAKEOVER PROJECT '26

SUBMISSION DEADLINE JULY 31st 2026

09/03 - 09/31  2026

OPEN CALL FOR ART

Creativity. Community. Collaboration

Join us for the 5th Annual Art Takeover Project, a unique community art experience that transforms Downtown Grosse Pointe into a walkable exhibition of creativity throughout the month of September.

Art Takeover Project was created to connect artists, local businesses, and the community through interactive displays of art. Each year, artists are paired with businesses throughout The Village Business District to create engaging exhibitions that bring art into everyday spaces while encouraging visitors to explore, discover, and support local creativity.

In 2025, Art Takeover featured more than 80 artists across 35 local businesses. We are excited to continue growing this creative tradition in 2026 and invite artists from across Michigan to participate.

How It Works

Artists and participating businesses are paired following the submission deadline. Pairings are determined based on the size, layout, and display opportunities available within each business.

The number of artists assigned to each location will vary depending on available space and square footage.

Artists and businesses will be paired at the end of July and will have the month of August to plan and create their display together.

Displays may consist of:

  • A single featured artwork

  • Multiple works shown together as a "collection"

  • Interactive or experiential artwork (where appropriate)

The final display concept may be developed collaboratively between the artist and business.

Submission Requirements

Artists may submit:

  • Up to three (3) clear examples of their work

  • A brief description of the type of display they would like to create

  • Any special requirements or display considerations

Artwork submitted for jury review does not need to be the artwork displayed during the event. Artists are encouraged to create new work or adapt their display concept to best suit their assigned location.
